California is home to a rapidly accelerating critical mineral ecosystem that includes rare earths, lithium, boron, and others.
These materials are vital for many sectors as they are necessary for producing zero-emission vehicles, clean energy technologies, defense applications, semiconductors, and much more. Under the U.S. Department of Energy, the Biden-Harris Administration recently announced $675 million under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for critical materials . This federal opportunity, and others like it, provide the opportunity to accelerate the nation’s transition to a clean economy, rebuild the complete domestic supply chain, and ensure national defense preparedness. This convening will bring together government, industry stakeholders, non-profits, academia, and community and economic development leaders to discuss future opportunities to support California’s critical material ecosystem, build-out future manufacturing capabilities, and align the collective supply chain.
Hosted by University of California, Riverside in partnership with the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), California Energy Commission (CEC), the California Employment Training Panel (ETP), and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Attendees will include research organizations, local government, defense, economic development practitioner organizations, businesses, infrastructure, academia, and state and federal agencies.

– Breakout sessions covering topics such as research, entrepreneurship, building out manufacturing capabilities, infrastructure, workforce development, and local partnerships
